Theatre Composition

Composing is always a great challenge and an enormously exciting and rewarding experience.

I love the blank canvass you start the process with, and the challenge that you have to find something that is quite intangible.  A journey of discovery is needed to find the musical world that exists within the production.

When composing for a production I like to spend as much time as possible in the rehearsal room writing music.  This way I find it much easier to make sure I am writing music that fits the performance.  I’m also able to try feeding it into the rehearsal process at a much earlier stage, helping to create an environment in which the music and action work closely together.

Below is a selection of music I’ve written for several theatre productions over the last three years.
